Pupil Grouping(s), differentiation and support:

Objective:

To know a person who is special to them

Intended Outcomes: Children will

·              name a person who is important to them

·            use symbols, signs or words to say  why they are important

·              learn a Thank you poem

Language used:

Special, care, look after, kind, fair, fun

Lesson Plan:

·          Each session starts with a ‘warm-up’ game with the children in a circle – children to call out

·          a name  and send ball / bean bag to that person.

·          Play the music  ‘Forever friends’

·          An adult explain to the children who is important to them and why – perhaps show a photo of this person – it could be their own children, a friend, a parent etc.

·          Give examples of which sort of people may be important to them e.g. members of the family, friends, people who care for them e.g. foster parents, carers in respite care places, people at school, at a church / religious building, in a club where they go

·          Encourage the children to think about which people are important to them. Can they say their name and why they are important to them? Photos would be ideal but names could be put on the slip.

·          Cut the cards from ‘my Special Person’. Read out the cards to complete the sentence about their special person but say the name instead of ‘my special person’ (there are lots of cards to complete the sentences so there can be the same answers for different children or totally different answers. Use the symbols where appropriate. Do the signs with the children to show things about their special person.

·          Finish off by learning and saying and signing the ‘Thank you’ poem and colouring in/ using collage materials for the words Thank You on the poem sheet so that they can give it to their special person.

·          Play the music ‘Forever friends’ and let the children just listen.
